Wait for it...
I gotta say the Z06 is growing on me. I still want a targa, but I should get a Z06...if I find the right one....

Man I would like a Vette at some point in my life since all the Vette owners I have met seem to be a happy bunch and they sound amazing but they are LHD & quite pricy at £70,000 and I'm not sure I could resist the alure of a V12 Vantage at that price point.

Someday I'll have a C5 Targa or FRC. While the Z06 is awesome, all of the things that make it the Z06 can be easily swapped

You won't regret. The targas and even the coupe style chassis are noticeably more flexible than the FRC/Z06. Also lower CG from reduced glass.

Why get the FRC though? Then you might as well get the Z06.
It should be easy to swap suspension components, no? My dream would be to get a coupe, put it on the Z06 suspension, and get it up to the 400hp of the Z06 at least.

Ugh, but they cost more, don't look as good, aren't as useable, don't have a removeable roof panel...
I'm so torn. If I could get a Z06 for the same price as a similar mileage coupe, I'd probably do it. I really want to take the roof off though...I drove a C5 with the roof off and it was awesome.
I'm leaning towards getting the base coupe (with Z51 if I can find it) and having it as my first Corvette for a few years, then upgrading to a C6 Z06 when the prices come down.

Have your cake and eat it too my friend.
Have you ever driven a C5? I have driven quite a few, I even drove a Buddy's for about a week when I was trying to decide between an LT4 C4 and a C5. The difference between a C4 and C5 with the roof out is amazing. There is some rigidity lost but a C5 is not nearly as bad as the C4 with the roof out.

Don't quote me but I believe the FRC is lighter than the Z06, and if you're going to rip everything apart anyway you may as well start with something basic that costs much less

I have driven a C5, and even took the roof off. I didnt notice any lost ridgity, but I also didn't push it.
I've driven a 98 C5 coupe, a 2008 C6 convertible, and a 2011 C6 ZR1

The prices in Europe sort of ruin the Corvette. Here they are so cheap new for what you get, and used they are insane. I'm looking to buy a C5 by the end of 2015 for $15k

Do the FRC's really cost less than the coupe?

I really do need to drive one, but I know I won't settle for anything less if I do.

FRC = Fixed Roof Coupe. As far as I've been able to tell, the Targas and the FRCs are the two cheapest options out there

I know, when I say coupe I mean the targa. That's the Chevy terminology: FRC, Coupe, Z06. The FRC is rare enough that I never see them for sale, and when I do they don't seem much cheaper than a Coupe.
